Get to know me

I’m Kay Hopfauf (soon to be Wetzel)

but if we’ve met, you probably already know that. I’m a North Dakota–based documentary photographer with a soft spot for real life, Midwest small talk, and moments that unfold naturally when no one’s paying attention. I didn’t fall in love with photography because of perfect poses or pretty backdrops, I fell in love with it because it freezes time. The way your hands find each other without thinking. The way your people laugh when they’re comfortable. The way life looks when it’s being lived, not staged.
When you’re in front of my camera, I don’t expect you to perform or know what to do, that’s my job. Yours is just to be present. I’ll be there quietly, honestly, documenting your story as it is right now, so one day you can come back to it and feel it all over again.

a few things you should know about me:

- Real always beats perfect
- I'll absolutely apologize if YOU bump into ME.

- Im 100% here to direct you into those natural moments, I totally don't expect you to know what to do!!
- I romanticize everyday life
- I am 5'10" so you'll never have to worry about photos from a low angle. You're welcome.
